We, Courageous Community Center, a gathering place with the United Church of Canada, commit to facing our true history and impact. We acknowledge that the work of the United Church of Canada happens on the occupied land of many indigenous nations. All of which has been subject to settler colonization. We acknowledge that without decolonizing and reconciling the work of justice is incomplete. We want to understand the difference between indigenous and colonial culture.
We want to lean into courageous space, to experience discomfort, to listen, to learn and to participate in reconciling. While reconciling is understood in many ways, we value the statement by Ta7taliya Michelle Lorna Nahanee in her guide and workbook 'Decolonize First', "Reconciling is repairing relations, redressing harms and realizing balanced benefit for Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples." (pg. 3)
